Milwaukee Tool (Australia) (New Zealand) is expanding the warnings and instructions for the M18™ REDLITHIUM-ION™ HIGH DEMAND 9.0Ah BATTERY (M18B9) after it was found that, when operated in situations outside of the product's prescribed use, exposure to contaminated liquids could cause the battery to fail.

Failure has occurred when highly conductive or corrosive liquids have entered the battery pack. This has typically been when the batteries were being used in harsh environment applications, such as mining and marine, and had been exposed to significant volumes of contaminated liquids.
Some of the liquids that have the potential to cause product failure are salt water, acid and certain industrial chemicals such as drain cleaners, concrete etchers etc., and bleach or products containing bleach.

Failure can include a short-circuit which, in extreme situations, can result in smoking or fire, even when the battery is not in use.

The battery's performance is unimpeded when used within the operating guidelines. The Australia and New Zealand expanded warnings and instructions are specific to the M18B9.
